这是一道难度较低的三空题。一位英语大概是四六级水平的考生，看完题干后，脑中的理解大概是这样的：
大部分人类语言在意思方面是_______的，______背景和解读。但是数学陈述_____文化和历史：如果一千个人读一个等式，他们看到的是同一个等式。
（厚朴GRE注：“mathematical statements”的准确翻译是数学命题，“if”的准确翻译是“即使”，但是对这两个地方理解不完全准确并不影响做这道题。）
然后首先根据第二句话中的“但是”和“同一个”，推断出第一空应该是选“不同的”或者“多变的”之类的意思。
第一空的备选项figurative的意思是“比喻的”，redundant的意思是“多余的”、“（语言）累赘的”，显然不对。而备选项malleable的意思是“易受影响的”，带有和“可变的”差不多的意思，由此即可以确定第一空是选malleable。
之后，考生还必须要能看出题干中第二句话中的culture and history和第一句话中出现的context，说的差不多是同一个事情；第二句话中出现的read和第一句话中出现的interpretation，说的差不多也是同一个事情。再因为从一句话到第二句话是用了but，是表示转折，所以推断出第二空应该是说interpretation受到context的影响，由context决定，而第三空应该是说read不受culture an history的影响，不由culture an history来决定。由此选出第二空是dependent on，第三空是transcends。
这道题中需要同学们重点识记的两个单词是：
malleable adj. 易受外界影响的;可塑的;易被控制的
easily influenced, trained, or controlled
例句：
He had an actor'stypically malleable features.
他具有演员典型的可塑性强的特征。
transcend vt. （尤指概念范围、分类等抽象方面）超出，超越
be or go beyond the range or limits of (something abstract, typically a conceptual field or division)
例句：
This was an issue transcending party politics.
这是一个超越了党派政治范畴的问题。

人类用语中的大部分是容易受到影响的，（因为）语义是由（不同的）背景和（不同的）解读来决定的。但是数学命题（这种用语）的意义是超越文化和历史的（不会因为文化和历史不同而具有不同的意义）：即使1000个不同的人去看一个等式，他们看到的也是同一个等式。
