首先我们读题，可以得到大致的印象如下：
在太阳系中，相撞是最__________的进程之一：很多天体的图像都显示，在贯穿整个45亿的时间里，有一个冲击陨石坑的扩散。
用通俗的话讲，题目是说给很多天体拍了很多照片，这些照片显示，在整个长达45亿的时间里，存在很多冲击导致的陨石坑。所以题目是说发生过的冲击（impact）很多，也就是相撞（collision）很多，所以要选跟“很多”差不多的意思。
选项中只有pervasive的意思和“很多”有关，所以我们就可以选出pervasive。这是一个GRE经常考的单词，我们需要掌握。
pervasive adj.充斥各处的;弥漫的，遍布的
present or noticeable in every part of a thing or place
💡例句：
The influence of Freud is pervasive in her books.
弗洛伊德的影响在她的作品中随处可见。
这道题还有一个隐藏的难点，就是proliferation这个单词。一部分同学不认识这个单词，还有一部分同学认识，但这部分认识的同学很可能是从时事新闻里常出现的《不扩散核武器条约》（Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty ）学来的。这个条约里的proliferation的意思是“激增；扩散”（rapid increase in numbers）。
但是在今天我们讲的这道GRE题目里，不是说陨石坑激增或者扩散了，而是说陨石坑很多。题目里的proliferation的意思就是“大量东西”（a large number of something）。

Stress levels are high, forcing upon them a proliferation of ailments.
压力很大，这使得他们患了许多病痛。

读题后我们得到的印象大概是：
尽管越来越多证据表明大部分科学是在学校以外学会的，但是那种认为儿童主要是从学校学会科学知识的想法太_______了，以至于质疑这种想法的政策制定者还是很少。
我们可以推知，空里面应该填那种老的想法多么深入人心、多么被广泛接受的意思。于是我们就可以选出正确选项pervasive。
这道题里有另外一个词值得我们注意，那就是备选项中的tenuous是说想法“微弱、不牢固”的意思。
tenuous adj. （关系、想法、形势等）不确定的，不明朗的
(of a connection, idea, or situation) weak and possibly does not exist
💡例句：
The police have only found a tenuous connection between the two robberies.
我们只能认定这两桩抢劫案之间可能有某些联系。
